René Johannes Kooiker is a PhD candidate in comparative literature at Yale University as well as an assistant editor at The Yale Review. His dissertation recovers the cultural and literary history of the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA). His scholarly work has appeared in or is forthcoming in Small Axe, PMLA, archipelagos, Dance Chronicle, and Modern Language Quarterly.
