Temporary Community
Sesshu Foster reports from a mutual aid center in the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires.
Dear Readers,
We wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the devastation of our beloved city over the past few days. It happened so quickly that we all still feel a little disoriented. So many members of our staff, as well as our writers, our readers, and our friends, have been affected by the fires that it’s difficult to contemplate how to address this publicly. The losses are both broad and painfully specific. This is a different city from the one it was a week ago.
There’s no separation between this publication and the people who write for us, who read us, who are simply a part of the city we live in. This is a shared disaster, and our thoughts are with you and with everyone affected by these fires.
You’ll find a list of resources from Mutual Aid LA here. We’re hoping for a collective safety and looking forward to a communal recovery.
Yours,
Medaya
