The Best of the LARB Radio Hour

The Best of the LARB Radio Hour

The Best of the LARB Radio Hour
For the past four years, co-hosts Medaya Ocher, Kate Wolf, and Eric Newman have helmed the LARB Radio Hour, taking over for the previous hosting trio of Tom Lutz, Laurie Winer, and Seth Greenland, who launched the show in 2011. Each week, Medaya, Kate, and Eric interview emerging and established authors, filmmaker, artists, thinkers, and activists, celebrating the cultural landscape of Los Angeles and beyond. The pieces selected below reflect the diversity of perspectives and experiences the Radio Hour delivers to KPFK listeners and podcast subscribers: a dissident Chinese artist on the struggle for human rights; the self-described “King of Filth” on underground cinema past and present; a Korean director on his pathbreaking film of class conflict in a luxury home; one of the co-founders of #BlackLivesMatter; and much more. We’ve also included a fan favorite — the end-of-year “best of” roundups where the gang sounds off on their favorite movies, TV shows, music, and art, and simply swaps gossip, focusing on cultural moments that sparkle even in the most trying of years. These stories represent just a taste of what the LARB Radio Hour has offered, and will continue to offer, throughout its delightful run.
