Vaneesa Cook is a historian and freelance writer. Her essays have appeared in Aeon, Dissent, Raritan, Sojourners, No Depression, and the Washington Post. Her first book, Spiritual Socialists: Religion and the American Left, was recently published from the University of Pennsylvania Press. She received her PhD in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and continues to lecture there.
