Simon Williams is professor emeritus in the Department of Theater and Dance at UC Santa Barbara. He is author of German Actors of the 18th and 19th Centuries (1985), Shakespeare on the German Stage: 1586-1914 (1990), Richard Wagner and Festival Theatre (1994), and Wagner and the Romantic Hero (2004). He has also published numerous articles on the history of theatre and opera.
