Michael Downs is a journalist and the author of three books, including most recently a novel, The Strange and True Tale of Horace Wells, Surgeon Dentist (2018). His awards include a literature fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and a Fulbright scholarship to study and work in Kraków, Poland. He grew up in Tucson, Arizona, where he also worked as a newspaper reporter covering sports and the police beat.
