Berton Emerson, of Democracies in America: Keywords for the Nineteenth Century and Today (2023). His reported features, reviews, and essays have appeared in Public Source, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and LARB, among other outlets. He holds a PhD from Northwestern University.
