Andre Pagliarini is an assistant professor of history and international studies at Louisiana State University, a faculty fellow at the Washington Brazil Office, and a nonresident expert at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. His analysis has been published in The New York Times, The Guardian, The New Republic, Dissent, and Jacobin. He will release a book about Lula for Polity this year while finalizing another manuscript on the politics of nationalism in 20th-century Brazil for University of California Press.
