Aashish Mehta

Aashish Mehta is an associate professor of Global Studies at UC, Santa Barbara. He is a development economist whose research examines the connections between globalization, economic development, education, employment, and inequality. He enjoys working with colleagues across the social sciences. His current projects include a multidisciplinary, multi-authored book demystifying higher-ed statistics for the public (forthcoming, Johns Hopkins University Press), a co-authored book manuscript examining how economic growth changes the nature of public services corruption in India, and an analysis of US public universities’ growing tendency to stratify students by race and class across differentially lucrative fields of study. His work has appeared in multiple peer-reviewed economics, political science, and public policy journals. He worked at the Asian Development Bank prior to joining UCSB and received UCSB’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2017.
