Everybody.World and Los Angeles Review of Books present SHORT STORIES, a night of shorts and short stories. A summer kick-off featuring the best of the short form! Hosted at Permanent Records Roadhouse with readings from Anna Dorn, Jean Chen Ho, Ben Loory, and Jack Skelley. Plus music from Mo0d and drinks from Madre Mezcal!

Anna Dorn is the author of the novels VagablondeExalted, and Perfume & PainExalted was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Her next book, American Spirits, is forthcoming from Simon & Schuster in 2026. She lives in Los Angeles.

Jean Chen Ho is the author of Fiona and Jane, one of TIME’s 100 Must-Read Books of 2022, longlisted for the Story Prize, and named a Best Book of the Year by NPR, Vulture, Vogue, Oprah Daily, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and Electric Literature. Her fiction, essays, and criticism appear in New York Times Magazine, The Cut, Los Angeles Times, Guernica, and other publications. Ho is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Chapman University. She lives in Los Angeles. Her piece, “Travel Sarah,” can be found in issue no. 41, Truth, of the LARB Quarterly Journal.

Ben Loory is the author of the collections Tales of Falling and Flying and Stories for Nighttime and Some for the Day, both from Penguin Books. His fables and tales have appeared in The New Yorker, Fairy Tale Review, BOMB Magazine, and A Public Space, and been heard on This American Life and Selected Shorts. He lives and teaches short story writing in Los Angeles.

Jack Skelley is the author of the novel The Complete Fear of Kathy Acker (Semiotext(e), 2023), and Myth Lab: Theories of Plastic Love (Far West Press, 2024). Jack’s other books include Monsters (Little Caesar Press), Dennis Wilson and Charlie Manson (Fred & Barney Press), and Interstellar Theme Park: New and Selected Writing (BlazeVOX). Jack’s psychedelic surf band Lawndale released two albums on SST Records, and has a new album, Twango.
