Victoria Smolkin

Victoria Smolkin is associate professor of history and Russian, East European, and Eurasian studies at Wesleyan University. A scholar of Communism, the Cold War, and Russia and the former Soviet Union, her work focuses on the intersections of politics with religion, ideology, atheism, and secularism. Her research has been supported by Princeton University’s Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies, the Social Science Research Council, the Fulbright-Hays Fellowship, and the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, among others. She is the author of A Sacred Space Is Never Empty: A History of Soviet Atheism.
