Luncheon on the Grass

Luncheon on the Grass is a group exhibition up at Jeffrey Deitch in Los Angeles. Framed as a contemporary response to Édouard Manet’s infamous Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, the show includes works by Robert Colescott, Diane Arbus, Salman Toor, Kehinde Wiley, and several others.

Manet’s painting historically and contemporarily has been described provocative formally and in regards to its subject matter. That provocation has been taken up by the artists in Luncheon on the Grass expansively and speculatively.

The exhibition runs until April 23, 2022.
