MEMBERSHIP FAQS

Membership FAQs

Break it down. What’s changing?

We’re expanding our offerings to include both membership and subscription options. The old membership levels of Digital, Monthly, LARB Books, and Book Club are shifting. Don’t worry, your favorite ways to get your LARB on aren’t going anywhere! Now, you can choose between being a LARB member at the Supporter or Friend level, or if you’d prefer to donate, you can do so at any level or at the suggested donation levels that come with a variety of perks. We also now offer a subscription program, so you can receive 4 copies of the LARB Quarterly at a new, lower price.

So, what’s the difference between being a member and a subscriber?

Members receive special perks and invites, whereas subscribers simply receive the Quarterly. Subscribers can choose between Digital and Print copies of the Quarterly, whereas members receive additional perks such as a Reckless Reader discount card, a limited-edition LARB tote, access to Salon discussions, Book Club meetings, and more.

What happened to the Quarterly Journal?

It didn’t go anywhere, don’t worry! We’ve just given it an upgrade and renamed it The LARB Quarterly. All the essays, poems, and stories you love will still be there and good as ever.

What is the difference between the Digital archive and Digital Quarterly?

The Digital Quarterly is simply the digital version of the Print Quarterly, and the archive is where you’ll find all past issues, digitized and ready to read.

I’m currently a member – what can I expect?

Current Digital Annual members can expect a free upgrade for a year to LARB Supporter, which gives you access to the print version of the Quarterly in addition to everything you’re used to from the Digital Membership. Afterwards, you can upgrade to that level permanently for $100/year, choose to become a subscriber, or opt out entirely.

Current Digital Monthly members can expect a free upgrade for six months to LARB Supporter, which gives you access to the print version of the Quarterly in addition to everything you’re used to from the Digital Membership. Afterwards, you can elect to be upgraded to that level permanently for $10/month, choose to become a subscriber, or opt out entirely.

Current Print members who choose to remain at the LARB Supporter level can expect to automatically receive the same premiums as they did before, plus access to members-only Book Club discussions and Salons.

Current Book Club members who choose to remain at the LARB Friend level can expect to automatically receive the same premiums as they did before, plus access to Salons.

How does this affect international members?

International members will continue to be charged the current postage rate for their copies of The LARB Quarterly.

How do I receive my copy of The LARB Quarterly?

For members: you will be able to access the digital versions of the issue on the LARB site. Log into your LARB account here.

For subscribers: you will be able to access the digital versions of the issue on the LARB shop site. Log into your LARB shop account here.

I’m brand-new to LARB and want to become a subscriber. What does that look like?

The options for perks are listed above. All subscriber information can be found here. You can also purchase totes, LARB Book and Les Figues titles, and back issues of the print Quarterly here. Any upcoming issues of the Quarterly can also be purchased here in either digital or print format.

What is the Reckless Reader program? What is this card for?

The Reckless Reader program is LARB’s community of bookstores. All LARB members get a 10% discount or other perks at each participating bookstore, and in return, we support and promote our partner stores. Your card gives you access to special discounts and premiums.

Is my store in the program?

You can check out the full list of Reckless Reader stores here.

How can I nominate a store?

If you wish to nominate a store or work at a bookstore and want to join the program, please reach out to Natasha Vhugen at [email protected].

Is the LARB Books membership still offered?

No, the LARB Books membership level will conclude in June. All LARB Books members will fulfill their preexisting premiums by receiving up to four more LARB Books picks in the choose-your-own-adventure fashion we have been using. E.g. if you have only received two, you will receive two more, but if you’ve received all four picks for a year’s membership, you will be automatically transitioned to the LARB Friend membership level.

How do I log in?

You can log in with your LARB username and password here.
