Everybody.World and Los Angeles Review of Books present SHORT STORIES, an afternoon of shorts and short stories to kick off the summer because these are two forms that just don’t want to be full-length! There will be wine, music, readings by Cyrus Dunham, Kate Durbin, Allie Rowbottom, and Lisa Teasley, and new summer shorts from Everybody.World.
Cyrus Dunham is a writer and organizer living in Los Angeles. A Year Without a Name is their first book. Read his short story in LARB Quarterly‘s Do You Love Me? issue.
Kate Durbin is a writer and artist from Los Angeles. She is the author of four books of poetry, including Hoarders (Wave Books) and E! Entertainment (Wonder). Her writing has appeared in Flaunt, Art in America, Poetry, BOMB, Spike Art, The American Poetry Review, and more. She has shown her artwork nationally and internationally at The PULSE Art Fair in Miami, MOCA Los Angeles, the SPRING/BREAK Art Show, peer to space in Berlin, and elsewhere. Her poetry app, ABRA, won the 2015 international Turn on Literature Prize, and she was the Arts Queensland Poet-in-Residence in Brisbane, Australia in 2015 and 2020. Allie Rowbottom is the author of AESTHETICA, published November 2022 by Soho Press and named a best book of 2022 by Glamour Magazine, NPR and Vanity Fair. Allie’s first book, the critically acclaimed memoir, Jell-O Girls (Little Brown and Company) was a 2018 NYT Editor’s Choice Selection, Amazon Best Book of the Month, Indie Next Pick, and Real Simple Best Book of the year. Lisa Teasley is the author of the award-winning story collection Glow in the Dark and the critically acclaimed novels, Dive and Heat Signature. Her new story collection Fluid comes out this September. Teasley’s writings have been translated into French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and Arabic, and her stories and essays have been much anthologized including in this year’s W.W. Norton anthology Flash Fiction America and Europa Editions The Passenger: California. She is the writer and presenter of the BBC television documentary “High School Prom” and is currently writing a commissioned opera libretto. A former senior fiction editor, she is now a LARB editor at large. Read her short story in LARB Quarterly‘s What is L.A.? issue.
