Peter Sherwood

Peter Sherwood taught Hungarian at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (now part of University College London) until 2007. From 2008 until his retirement in 2014 he was László Birinyi, Sr., Distinguished Professor of Hungarian Language and Culture in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has received many awards for his service to the profession and his support of Hungarian culture. Working alone or together with his wife, Julia Sherwood, he has published many book-length translations from Hungarian and Slovak, and his translations of shorter prose have appeared in Asymptote, Words Without Borders, The Missing Slate, BODY, and other venues. He and Julia live in London.
