“Voltaire, the Philosopher, to Empress Katerina”: A Poem from Ukraine by Boris Khersonsky

Boris Khersonsky (b. 1950)&nbsp;is one of Ukraine’s most prominent writers. He lives in Odessa, where he chairs the department of clinical psychology at Odessa National University. During the Soviet period he played an important role in Underground culture and was published throughout the USSR in samizdat (unofficial works distributed through networks of acquaintances).

Konstantin Akinsha studied at the Shevchenko Art School in Kyiv, Ukraine, and in 1986 completed a Masters in Art History at the Moscow State University in Russia. He has written a number of books, including <em>Stolen Treasure</em> (Weidenfeld &amp; Nicolson, 1995), co-authored with Gregorii Kozlov, and <em>The Holy Place</em>, co-authored with Gregorii Kozlov and Sylvia Hochfield (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2007).
