James Shapiro

James Shapiro is Larry Miller Professor of English at Columbia University and the author of several books, including 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare (2005), Contested Will (2010), The Year of Lear: Shakespeare in 1606 (2015), and Shakespeare in a Divided America (forthcoming, 2020). He has been awarded Guggenheim and NEH Public Scholar fellowships, has been inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, serves on the Board of Directors of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and is Shakespeare Scholar in Residence at the Public Theater.
