E.B. White

Elwyn Brooks White was an American writer and humorist. He was a long-time contributor to The New Yorker magazine and the co-author, with William Strunk, Jr. of the widely-used English language style guideThe Elements of Style, which is commonly known as "Strunk & White." He also wrote children's books including Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little.

"'Why did you do all this for me?' he asked. 'I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you.'

"'You have been my friend,' replied Charlotte. 'That in itself is a tremendous thing.'"
