Christian Mungiu

Cristian Mungiu (b. 1968) is a Romanian film director. He has a BA in English and American literature from the University of Iaşi  (Romania) and another in film from the University of Film and Theatre (in Bucharest). Mungiu began his career as a filmmaker in 2000; his first feature film, Occident, was premiered at the Cannes Festival’s Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in 2002. In 2007 his second feature film, 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days, won Cannes’s Palme d'Or. Cristian Mungiu’s latest film, Beyond the Hills (2012), won the Cannes awards for the best screenplay and the best actress (shared by Cosmina Stratan and Cristina Flutur).
