Tony Hillerman

Tony Hillerman (1925–2008), a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, since 1963, wrote 29 books, including 18 popular mystery novels featuring Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. He received many awards, including the Navajo Tribal Council’s commendation to France’s Grand prix de litterature policiere. In 2008, the Western Writers of America honored him with the Wister Award for Lifetime Achievement. He served as president of the Mystery Writers of America, which honored him with an Edgar Award and named him one of mystery fiction’s Grand Masters.
