Samrat Upadhyay is the author of the short story collections Arresting God in Kathmandu and The Royal Ghosts, and the novels The Guru of Love and Buddha's Orphans. The City Son is his fifth book. He has written for The New York Times and has appeared on BBC Radio and National Public Radio. Upadhyay is the Martha Kraft Professor of Humanities at Indiana University.
