Maria Tumarkin is an award-winning, critically acclaimed writer and cultural historian. Axiomatic won the 2018 Melbourne Prize for Literature, was shortlisted in the 2019 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards, the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards and the Stella Prize. Traumascapes, Courage, and Otherland have all been shortlisted for literary prizes. Maria’s essays have appeared in The Best Australian Essays (2011, 2012, and 2015), Griffith Review, Meanjin, The Monthly, Sydney Review of Books, The Age, The Australian, and Inside Story. Maria teaches creative writing at the University of Melbourne.
