Maria Stepanova, a Russian poet, journalist, and prominent public figure, was born in Moscow in 1972 and graduated from the Gorky Literary Institute in 1995. She received the Znamya Prize twice, as well as the Andrei Bely Prize, the Pasternak Prize, and the Hubert Burda Fund Prize.
