Claude Lévi-Strauss was chair of Social Anthropology at the Collège de France (1959–1982) and one of the most important anthropologists of the twentieth century. His works include Tristes tropiques (1955), The Savage Mind (1962), and Structural Anthropology (1958; 1973).
