Alafair Burke is the New York Times best-selling author of 11 previous novels, the most recent of which, The Ex, was nominated for the Edgar Award for Best Novel. She also coauthors the best-selling Under Suspicion series with Mary Higgins Clark. A former prosecutor, she now teaches criminal law and lives in Manhattan.

The Rivera Book Prize aims to provide a platform that showcases the emerging literary talent of the Chicanx/Latinx community, to cultivate the next generation of Chicanx/Latinx writers, and to continue the rich literary memory of Tomás Rivera, Chicano author, poet, activist, and educator.
