Tobie Meyer-Fong

Tobie Meyer-Fong is associate professor and director of graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins University and is co-editor of the journal, Late Imperial China. Her first book, Building Culture in Early Qing Yangzhou, deals with the construction of cultural landmarks and the re-creation of elite identities in the city of Yangzhou after the Manchu conquest. Her book, What Remains: Coming to Terms with Civil War in Nineteenth-Century China, examines the emotional, cultural, and social impacts of the Taiping rebellion. Her courses at Hopkins span Chinese literature, arts, and popular culture, the Cultural Revolution, gender, and nationalism in 20th century Asia, urban history, and the history of travel and tourism.
