Jeanette Winterson

Jeanette Winterson is a British novelist best known for Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, a semi-autobiographical, award-winning novel about a young lesbian's terrible home life before coming out to her adoptive mother at age 16 and being thoroughly shunned by her church and family. Adopted as an infant and raised in Accrington, Lancashire, Winterson is best known for her work exploring gender and sexuality boundaries and identities. Her most recent work is a memoir titled Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
