Gayle Wald is Chair and Professor of English at George Washington University. She is author of two books, including Shout, Sister, Shout!, a biography of the gospel-rock trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Her current project is a cultural biography of Soul!, the PBS TV show (1968-73).
