Loren Glass
Loren Glass is the Associate Professor of English at the University of Iowa. His first book, Authors Inc.: Literary Celebrity in the Modern United States, 1880-1980, was published by New York University Press in 2004 and chronicles a time when authors were actually famous. Literary Historian.
"As Hemingway stressed in all his correspondence concerning this text, the issue was not so much substance as timing. Biography and biographical criticism, particularly of the psychoanalytic variety, is only wrong if practiced while the author is alive. He had hoped to prevent publication of the book by refusing to allow Young to quote from his works, thereby preventing the critic from citing the evidence necessary to prove his thesis. But in terms of this letter, we see his nascent realization that he has little recourse in literary property law here."
