The Questionnaire: Tom Dibblee

By The QuestionnaireMarch 15, 2013

How do you feel about your Wikipedia entry?

Too short.

Best piece of advice you ever received?

In dialogue, have your characters say no to each other. I now call this the Gilmore Girls method.

Who is your imagined audience? Does it at all coincide with the real one?

Rooms full of people I’ve gone to school with, grown up with, and met in bars, with me on stage behind a lectern. And no this doesn’t really coincide…

What country would you want to be exiled in?

Brazil.

Is your study neat, or, like John Muir’s, is your desk and floor covered in “lateral, medial, and terminal moraines”?

When it’s hot, my study is the couch in front of my AC unit. When it’s cold, my study is my bed. I do make my bed after I get up in the morning though, before getting back in it to write.

What is your go-to shoe?

Vans Half Cabs.

What's your poison?

Tequila when I don’t have to drive, Bud Light Lime when I do…

Title of the book you’re probably never going to write, but would kind of like to get around to?

Blood/Sugar/Control: How knowing how much sugar you have in your blood can really change the way you feel about introspection

Do you require a high thread count?

If the Target Room Essentials Jersey sheets are high thread count, then yes...

What character or story haunts you?

James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues.”

The Questionnaire is, as her name suggests, a multifarious and mysterious interlocutor. Chameleon-like, her questions change their color as they approach each new interviewee.
