In answer to several of the questions:


It's against my religion to read my Wikipedia entry -- carefully anyway, or in its entirety -- or, for that matter, to Google myself or follow my books' rankings on Amazon. The reasons for these prohibitions range from cowardice to existential queasiness, but the only relevant one here is professional. I am a writer, which means I am the observer and not the object of observation, the vantage point and not the view. Others are of course free to study my work habits (obsessive), desk hygiene (tragic) or thread count preferences (none), but it's my job to keep my eye on other things.

The Questionnaire is, as her name suggests, a multifarious and mysterious interlocutor. Chameleon-like, her questions change their color as they approach each new interviewee.
